Imagine a small workshop and a man with foresight and perspicacity. This was Medmont 20 years ago. In those early days he had the vision to create a company based on the delivery of a quality product at a reasonable cost to the Australian market. It was with this vision that Medmont Pty. Ltd. was formed in the late 1980's to develop and market a range of ophthalmic instrumentation centred on an Automated Perimeter which at that time was in early prototype development.
For an equipment developer and manufacturer to do this in Australia was generally seen as being an impossibility due to the competition internationally, the costs involved in research and development and the disadvantages of a small population. Thanks to a simple plan, amazing innovation and the readiness of the Australian profession to provide us with constructive feedback, not only has Medmont delivered to Australia, the company has taken on the world.
The first unit, known as the M600 Automated Perimeter, was delivered in December 1988 and proved to be an outstanding success on the local market. Its early acceptance on the domestic market was soon followed by similar success internationally. The first export unit was shipped only 10 months after the first local delivery and the M600 is now sold in numerous countries throughout Western and Eastern Europe, Indian sub-continent, the Asia-Pacific region and North and South America. The M600 has since matured into the Medmont M700 Automated Perimeter, which has been welcomed into the industry with even greater success.
With over 30 overseas markets, we continue to expand both our export horizons and our product range, showing how an Australian company can not just compete with the multinationals, but offer products that are second to none.
Medmont also produces the innovative and extremely accurate E300 Corneal Topographer, offering features unseen on competitors' products. With our DV2000 Digital Imaging software, we have answered our clients call for an intuitive solution to this rapidly expanding area. The AT20R Visual Acuity Tester has unmatched flexibility and has made chart projector systems dated and comparatively unwieldy.
With continuing development of hardware and software, Medmont have always had a ready market for equipment that is accurate and cost effective. The ongoing affordability and upgradability of our products, without having to compromise on quality or accuracy, have been the keys to our success.
When we made our first perimeter it was with a vision towards the future. There had to be the facility to upgrade the instrument as new techniques and software became available. Despite the incredible evolution of PCs and the new testing techniques that have been developed, we are able to upgrade that first perimeter up to our latest software package at a minimal cost. All Medmont products provide comprehensive and versatile measurement capability through the integration of sophisticated diagnostic and testing techniques with advanced computer software programs in a system based product philosophy.
Medmont aims to provide a comprehensive ophthalmic product range to the domestic and international markets and is seeking opportunities to consolidate and enhance this range.
